She went from being easygoing to constantly frustrated \u2014 whining over tiny things, throwing tantrums at bedtime, and even crying because her socks didn\u2019t match \u201cjust right.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>I was exhausted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>No matter how much patience I tried to show, no matter how many parenting books I read or gentle discipline techniques I tried, nothing seemed to help.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>One day, after an especially rough morning where she cried over socks not matching and screamed because her juice cup wasn\u2019t \u201cjust right,\u201d I finally snapped.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhy are you acting like this?!\u201d I asked, frustrated beyond belief.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>She looked up at me with big, watery eyes and whispered, \u201cI don\u2019t know. I just feel weird inside.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>That hit me harder than any tantrum ever could.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>So I scheduled an appointment with a child therapist.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>We went in expecting to hear that she was just being dramatic, or testing limits \u2014 but what we learned changed everything.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>The therapist gently explained that children often express emotional distress through behavior \u2014 and that my daughter might be struggling with anxiety.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>At first, I was shocked. She was only five. How could she possibly have anxiety?<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>But as the therapist walked me through the signs \u2014 constant irritability, difficulty sleeping, extreme sensitivity to change, and persistent worry \u2014 it all started to make sense.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t that she was trying to be difficult.<br \/>\nIt wasn\u2019t that she was spoiled or defiant.<br \/>\nShe was simply trying to cope with feelings she didn\u2019t yet know how to name.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>We started working with the therapist on tools to help her manage her emotions \u2014 things like deep breathing exercises, feeling charts, and structured moments to talk about worries before bedtime.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>And slowly\u2026 things began to change.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>She started using her words instead of melting down. She learned to ask for space when she felt overwhelmed. And most importantly, she learned that it was okay to feel things deeply \u2014 and that she wasn\u2019t alone in dealing with those feelings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>Now, almost a year later, she\u2019s still learning \u2014 but so am I.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p>Because here\u2019s the truth:<br \/>\nKids aren\u2019t born knowing how to regulate their emotions.<br \/>\nThey learn by watching us.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-2\"><\/div>\n<p data-spm-anchor-id=\"a2ty_o01.29997173.0.i219.386145e0UhPzJL\">And sometimes, the best thing we can do for them is stop seeing their behavior as bad \u2014 and start seeing it as a cry for help.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>As a mom of a bright, sweet little girl, I never expected parenting to feel this hard.
