Karma didn’t let the bride and groom get away with forcing us to serve and clean during their wedding.

We expected luxury at our friends’ wedding, not labor. But when the bride handed out “to-do” lists — setting tables, serving drinks, even cleaning bathrooms — our excitement turned to outrage. While Sarah and Tom partied, we became unpaid staff.

It all started when we arrived at the Belmont Estate. The venue was beautiful, but there was no valet, and we had to park ourselves. As we walked up in our fancy outfits, the bride, Sarah, grabbed us and urgently pulled us aside. That’s when they revealed the shocking news: there was no staff. Sarah and Tom expected us to step in and help out as a “favor.”

I couldn’t believe it. Task lists were handed out, and I was assigned to set up chairs, serve appetizers, and even clean bathrooms. What could we do? We awkwardly got to work, but the newlyweds’ family members sat around, enjoying drinks, while we scrambled to prepare for the reception.

The real turning point came when Sarah barked orders at us, while we noticed the guests doing nothing. Her mother even criticized us for being too slow, despite doing all the hard work. Then, after a moment of reflection, we realized we weren’t just guests — we were being treated as unpaid labor.

We decided our “services” would be our gift. After finishing our tasks, I stood up during the gift-opening and told Sarah and Tom that we were keeping our thousand-dollar gifts as compensation for our help.

As Sarah shrieked in disbelief, she stepped back — right into the wedding cake. The cake toppled over onto her, and we couldn’t help but laugh. We left the reception with our dignity intact, while Sarah fumed in the ruins of her cake.

In the end, we got a valuable lesson across, and the bride’s cake-covered karma was just the icing on the cake.
