During their dramatic farewell appearance as working royals alongside William and Kate, Harry and Meghan disclose the truth.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently reflected on their final appearance as working royals, which took place at the Commonwealth Day Service in March 2020—two months after announcing their decision to step back from official duties.
The couple joined Queen Elizabeth II, then-Prince Charles, William, and Kate at Westminster Abbey for the service. In their 2022 Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, they shared the emotional tension of that day.
“It’s like living through a soap opera,” Harry said, recalling how distant he felt from his family despite the formal smiles. Meghan added it was the first time they saw the rest of the royals in public since stepping back.
Following their departure, Queen Elizabeth expressed support, saying while the family would’ve preferred them to stay, she respected their wish to live a more independent life.
Meghan has since launched a new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, offering cooking and entertaining tips alongside celebrity guests.
