When Shelly Lisi first heard her dogs barking outside, she wasn’t concerned. When the barking didn’t stop, that’s when she decided to go outside and figure out what was going on.
“We live [in] a rural area with a farm field on one side of us and a horse farm behind us, [and] there is usually some kind of animal making its way across the field,” Lisi told The Dodo. “Usually they scare off whatever they are barking at pretty quickly.”
Twenty minutes of continuous barking was unusual for them, and she realized they must be trying to tell her something. When she got outside, she immediately understood.
Standing in the grass, staring up at her dogs, was a tiny kitten.
“I was a little alarmed, and the kitten was quite frightened but feisty,” Lisi said. “As soon as I got out there, the dogs calmed down — they were more curious than anything. I was able to pick up the kitten and we got him into a crate in our garage so we could look him over.”
Surprisingly, the kitten seemed totally OK besides being underweight. Once he was safe, Lisi went looking for the kitten’s family, even talked to her neighbors and checked the footage from her outdoor cameras, but came up empty.
“We have no idea where he came from,” Lisi said.
Once the little guy had time to calm down and decompress, he turned into a happy, spunky kitten. He loved the family’s dogs and got along with them wonderfully — and he’s since been adopted into his forever home.
This tiny kitten was lost and confused, but bravely standing up to two huge dogs led to him finding his happily-ever-after.
