Shelter officials witnessed Barley cry after his owner relinquished him and never looked back, which shattered their hearts.
Meet Barley. On August 25, 2021, this lovely German shepherd was surrendered to the Riverside Animal Shelter by his owner, who never returned to say goodbye. Instead, his owner left, and Barley stood there watching. When he was carried to his shelter cage, he wailed uncontrollably, breaking many people’s hearts.
An animal advocate expressed her thoughts on social media:
“OH HOW HEARTBREAKING UPSETTING CONFUSING AND TRAUMATISING FOR A PET TO BE CRUELLY SURRENDERED LEAVING THE POOR BETRAYED PET STUNNED, OVERWHELMED, AND HEARTBROKEN,” an animal advocate wrote on social media. THE OWNER DID NOT EVEN RETURN TO SEE BARLEY AGAIN. SURRENDERING ONE’S LOYAL LOVING AND TRUSTING HUMAN COMPANION IS BEYOND CRUEL HEARTLESS, UNACCEPTABLE, AND INEXCUSABLE. TODAY, PLEASE ASSIST THIS BEAUTIFUL NATURED WONDERFUL LOVING AND PRECIOUS DARLING BOY.”
