On June 28, 2025, at around 3 p.m., Chalkwell Park in Southend, Essex, became the scene of heartbreak when a massive cedar tree near Chalkwell Hall fell, killing 7-year-old Amara Laine and injuring four other children. One 6-year-old girl remains in critical condition, while the others received treatment for minor injuries, according to local reports.
Emergency services, including six ambulances, two air ambulances, and fire crews, rushed to the chaotic scene, declared a major incident by Essex Police. Bystanders acted heroically, with several men lifting heavy branches to free a trapped child.
