At a recent performance, the legendary musician addressed a persistent conspiracy theory about his vision, eliciting emotional and admiring responses from online audiences.
On July 10, 2025, during his “Love, Light and Song” tour stop in Cardiff, Stevie Wonder addressed a longstanding rumor that he can see. While performing at Blackweir Live, the musician calmly dismissed the claim with a spiritual perspective, describing blindness as a gift that has influenced his worldview and interactions with people.
In a widely shared online video, the 75-year-old is seen on stage in Wales, holding a microphone. “I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now,” he began.
Wonder continued, “You know, there have been rumors about me seeing and all that? But seriously, you know the truth.” The audience responded with applause.
He then explained that he lost his sight shortly after birth but considers it a “blessing” because it allows him to see “the world in the vision of truth.” He added, “See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit,” before the video concluded.
As this moment spread online, fans expressed their admiration and gratitude in the comments. One person wrote, “It brings me such joy that Stevie is still with us.” Another commented, “Truth and wisdom right THERE!!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥,” while someone else simply shared, “So beautiful 💛.”
Others pondered the necessity of his statement, with one commenter saying, “Shouldn’t have spoken about it; he has nothing to prove.” Another fan noted, “Insightful words of wisdom,” and someone else added, “❤️ a good soul.”
One netizen reflected, “This man sees the world and people’s nature far further than most non-blind people ever will.” Summing it up, one fan simply wrote, “World treasure he is ❤️.”
This isn’t the first time Stevie Wonder has discussed his condition or how others perceive people with disabilities. In a 2024 video compilation for the United Nations, the legendary musician explained, “Even though it is considered that we have a so-called disability, we really are abled persons with different abilities.”
He has also previously spoken about his spiritual interpretation of others. During a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey for Apple TV, Winfrey remarked that Wonder could not see color, referring to skin color. Wonder responded, “No — well, I do see color, but I don’t see it like that. I see color in the spirit of the person. And your spirit is either good or bad. That’s the bottom line. You are living for the perpetuation of life or you are actually killing yourself with the hate you have within. That’s what’s up.”
Contrary to popular belief, Wonder leads a regular life. In a February 2015 interview with Ability Magazine, Chet Cooper asked about his hobbies outside of performing. Wonder mentioned his love for sports, including bowling, basketball, air hockey, and roller skating, but emphasized that his true passion is music. When asked if he had ever tried golf, Wonder responded, “No.”
Cooper then asked if there was anything the musician had done that might be considered unusual for someone who is blind. Wonder replied that there was nothing in particular but expressed openness to learning new things, such as a new sport. He cited the harpejji as an example, describing it as a highly visual instrument that is challenging to master.
