Parents go above and beyond to assist and safeguard their children. Celine Casey, a British mother, went above and beyond for her daughter, Vienna Brookshaw. Vienna was born in April 2021, and she had a birthmark on her forehead, between her eyebrows.
Although Vienna’s congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) birthmark did not result in any health issues, Casey was concerned about how it would effect her emotionally as she grew older.

A Strange Illness
Congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN) is a rare condition where a baby is born with a benign pigmented birthmark that grows as the child grows. Worried about the challenges her daughter Vienna might face, Casey quickly spoke with doctors about removal options.
Casey shared that she loves Vienna deeply and wants her to grow up confident and happy, birthmark or not.
The Need to Recognize
When people stared at Vienna and treated her differently, Casey became more determined to have the birthmark removed to spare her future discomfort.
Overcoming Obstacles
The NHS initially denied the surgery, calling it cosmetic. Casey then turned to crowdfunding and raised $52,000 in one day. Due to higher costs during COVID-19, the family still needs an additional $27,000 and returned to GoFundMe.
Casey explained that while doctors felt Vienna was too young to be affected mentally, children notice differences early, especially when they start school.
